Rania Khalek: How the Violence You Export Comes Back Home — The Imperial Boomerang

Rania Khalek The imperial boomerang

What happens far away doesn’t stay far away. Police increasingly look like soldiers. Surveillance tested on the powerless, then turned on everyone.

Cheap labor and raw materials bought where rules are lax — and migration follows.

Journalist Rania Khalek mapped this pattern: the imperial boomerang. Not one boomerang — five: migration, security, technology, militarization and anti-democracy.

Who is Rania Khalek

Rania Khalek is an American journalist and host of Dispatches (BreakThrough News). She’s known for her accuracy and relentless attention to silenced perspectives; for taking imperialism and colonization as the starting point of analysis rather than a footnote.

The lesson for entrepreneurs

Look upstream before you judge downstream. Ask: where did this problem actually begin? Her discipline — ask questions, listen to the silenced, speak with accuracy — is a business discipline too. Your cheap supply chain is your future problem. What you outsource out of sight comes back in sight.

The habit

Never take the official story at face value. Before a big decision, ask: whose voice is missing from this picture? And invite it in.

The dream

An economy where value isn’t extracted from the weak, but shared equally. Not everyone is the same — but everyone with equal chances: development, care, education and food within reach. That future starts with looking where others look away.
