Outsource your social media – how not to do it

Website

Jumping into social networks and doing it right is a bit of work. When you already are working very hard at the core of your business this is just an extra thing you can do without. Outsource it!

Good idea.
Outsourcing social media gone bad
When you hire another company to set up your (business) profiles in LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube you have to be sure they are doing it right.

Lately I receive more and more invites in LinkedIn of people who clearly outsourced the social media ‘task’. All profiles are similar and are not very personal.

The management dilemmas of the social web – Fons Trompenaars #TSC12

fons-trompenaars-tsc12

Fons Trompenaars was the opening keynote at The Social Conference (#TSC12). He used the research of the attendees to talk about the dilemmas we are facing with social business.

His presentation was filled with remarks that got the audience laughing and thinking:

Lot’s of female in the audience. He is not used to it because in boardrooms there are not a lot of female in the board room. “We kick them out, when it gets tough they cry, or they get pregnant.”

“Asocial conference, we spend more time typing into our phone then talking to each other. Let’s make this a more social conference and talk with each other.”

The Social Conference #TSC12

Deirdre Breakenridge

The Social Conference is a yearly event in Amsterdam. This year it was re-branded to The Social Conference. It is a cooperation between Emerce and Krem.

I will be blogging live from this event, trying to make some photos and videos from the speakers at the main stage.

The presentations I want to attend are:

Fons Trompenaars

Fons TrompenaarsFons (@thtconsulting) is well-known about his research on cultures. He was one of the authors I loved while I was doing my MBA. I am really interested in cultures and his research is very interesting on this.
At this conference Fons will talk about The management dilemma’s of the social web

“…he will address the culture-free challenges that all cultures face when implementing social media-centric approaches. Adoption and deployment of social media and the associated rules of interaction usually create tension in the ways companies are working.”

WordCast Conversations 9 – WordCamp and social media

WordCast is a blog and podcasts about blogging, social media and WordPress. Every week Dave Moyer (@davemoyer) and Kym Huynh (@kymhuynh) interview experts for WordCast Conversations. It is broadcasted live and published as a podcast for about an hour.

Via Lorelle Vanfossen (@lorelleonwp) I was invited to join WordCast Conversations. Lorelle is the founder of Bitwire Media, the company that hosts podcasts like WordCast conversations.

In the interview I answer questions on how I started as an independent professional, my work, WordCamp Netherlands and more.

This week on WordCast Conversations, we’re heading to the Netherlands one more time, to chat with Erno Hannink, an independent social media consultant and the lead organizer of WordCamp Netherlands.

It was a lot of fun to do, although I feel that I was talking a lot…

Erno recommended Darren Rowse’s Problogger as inspiration for those aspiring to a career in social media.

As a WordCamp organizer, Kym discussed the WordCamp format with Erno, who also shared many of his own experiences and tips for up-and-coming WordCamps.
