Are you missing important messages on Facebook?

facebook-messages-other

When a friend on Facebook sends you a message you can clearly see it at the top left of every page. When other people, whom are not directly connect to you, sends you a message it ends up in a secret box.

While writing an article about Facebook lists I was testing my groups. Clicking through the updates of my groups in the favorites I clicked on ‘Messages’ and ‘Other’.

There I saw it, messages from the last 4-5 months that I had completely missed. People asking questions, one potential client, attendees of my webinars that asked me to join the group.

see less updates from friends you had less contact with lately

Earlier I talked about Do you feel you are missing updates? Add no more than 150 connections. When you want to follow more of your most important connections, you need to reduce the number of connections.

One of the reactions I got on this post was

“There is no information overload, only filter failure.”

move friends to the acquaitances list

Facebook is addressing this point and bringing the list of ‘Acquaintances’ to our attention.

The perfect profile photo for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+ and more – 5 tips

Duchenne smiles

Earlier today I was reading Buy•ology by Martin Lindstrom and it reminded me of an article I wrote last year on ErnoHannink.nl. With Martin’s book I now found research to support my post.

In Chapter 3 of his book, Martin talks about mirror neurons (Mirror Neuron on Wikipedia). Interesting part of the book on how we experience feelings by looking at others doing something.

Danger: Facebook personal profile is not a business page #QandA

Overdrive Interactive

One of the things I get the most questions about for Facebook is on the personal profile. Questions like: “Do I need a personal profile to create a business page?”, “How can I start a page for our business without people knowing that I created it?” “Can I delete the personal profile after I have created the business page?”

Watch the screencast video about Personal Profile vs Business Page

Discover the New Facebook Timeline for business pages to attract fans

Facebook Timeline for your business page

Facebook introduced the Timeline on our personal profiles in 2011. It was only a matter of time before it will be rolled out to the pages section on Facebook.

February 29, 2012 Facebook introduced Timeline for their business pages. Now you have until March 30, 2012 to optimize your page so it looks great in Timeline. That is the date that all pages will automatically switch to this new layout.

Outsource your social media – how not to do it

Website

Jumping into social networks and doing it right is a bit of work. When you already are working very hard at the core of your business this is just an extra thing you can do without. Outsource it!

Good idea.
Outsourcing social media gone bad
When you hire another company to set up your (business) profiles in LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube you have to be sure they are doing it right.

Lately I receive more and more invites in LinkedIn of people who clearly outsourced the social media ‘task’. All profiles are similar and are not very personal.

Someone created a Facebook business page with my business name and it wasn’t me. #QandA

You are starting or just started a page on Facebook for your business. Then you do a quick search and you find a business page with your business name that you did not create. Whats is going on? Can you remove that page?

There can be a view reasons why this page is there:

  1. You or a colleague added an employer with the business name to their personal profile. They just added the name of the company without connecting it to a page. This happens often.
Facebook automatically creates an empty page, with the blue briefcase, with the business name.
  2. Someone checked in at your location using your business name. Here Facebook also creates a page automatically, a ‘place’.
  3. Someone, possibly a fan, started a page for your business

What to do?

Where do I find the people that Like my Facebook business page?

where-can-i-find-the-people-that-liked-my-page-3

Facebook changed the way you can see who liked your page. Before you could just click on the number of likes and a popup would show up with the people that like your page.

This changed and you need to do 2 extra steps now.
You can also find a screencast of this below.

The people that like your page

1. Click on the link ‘Like this’ just below the number of likes on your page, in the left sidebar.

Add your Facebook business page to your personal profile in 6 steps [video]

facebook-page-in-profile-7

Often I get the question “I have 2 pages on Facebook now, one that I have created and one that I did not create. How can I change that?”

What most of the times happened was that at some point you have added your company as work experience in your personal profile on Facebook, without creating an actual business page.

This is when Facebook automatically creates a page. One that has this briefcase (see below) and you can not edit it.

This video explains what is happening and how to correct it including a short screencast.
