Proposal for a manifesto

Ever since I have slowly migrated to the topic Family and Business Balance for entrepreneurial coaches I wanted to write a manifesto about it. A document that shows how I think about it. A document that can be shared freely with all coaches.

The first time I learned about manifestos was by Seth Godin’s The Bootstrapper’s Bible. The second time, when I really thought I can do this too, was with Chris Guillebau’s A Brief Guide to World Domination.

Balance your business and family is not a myth

In our last mastermind call, Becky McCray mentioned a post she read about how Work/Life balance is a myth.

She triggered me to write a post about how you can have a family and business balance as entrepreneur. Read my thoughts about this below.

It’s not a myth

Of course when you look at the word balance, like a scale that has to be balanced all the the time it will be pretty difficult. Sometimes a crisis situation with the kids require your full attention. Other moments there is a crisis with a client that requires your attention.

Vacation without wifi and internet, a blessing or a curse?

When I started my business I wanted to be able to work anywhere and from home. If your business is set up this way, you can work anywhere and any time. Also during your vacation, but should you?

Last week we were in Austria for some days of vacation.

wifi at your vacation

We had a beautiful appartement in Oberau – haus Astoria. Sonja, the owner, was really helpful. I misplaced (lost) my Wildschönau card, that gave me access to the lifts, and she replaced it the next morning.

Teach the kids about your business

Our kids have their holidays from school – 8 weeks of free time. They have almost no idea what to do and the weather is not helping (rain) 😉

Our son is 15 (almost 16) and wanted to become an architect but since last year he does not want to do that anymore. He does not know what he wants to do and lost his goal to work for at school.

Now he thinks about becoming a director of a business or something with programming. To see if ‘programming’ is his thing I have found a task for him.

A well-rounded life for entrepreneurs

A while ago I introduced the Best People Attraction Model:

Attracting Clients Customers Leads Suppliers Vendors Partners Freelancers Virtual Assistants

Talking with my friend Liz about this model she came to the conclusion that something is missing in the model. Although you see balance in entrepreneurship and family in the centre of the model it is not ‘in’ the model.

Finding your purpose and making a living at it

Overall I am really happy. It is in my DNA. However sometimes I wonder why am I doing what I am doing. Do you know the feeling?

On a day like this I just start answering these questions again.

Why am I doing this?
How can I attract a great community?
What is my strategy?

If You Don’t Understand People, You Don’t Understand Business

How can you help the Human Race?
Community, Tribe, and even a Company is a group of people with common set of values and believes. This results in Trust.

Membership program with a forum? WordPress and Simple:Press

When you are looking for products to add to your online services think about programs. This can be a training program or coaching program for example.

Online services are great for entrepreneurship/life balance. You can run these programs from your home office with teleseminars or webinars. A teleseminar is by phone and the program members call a special service where you speak via the phone.

A webinar runs via your webbrowser. The advantage of a webinar over a teleseminar is that the program members can see a presentation, images, or you via their browser. Your presentation can help the attendees understanding your story.

After the webinar or teleseminar you can distribute the recording of the training, Q&A session, mentor session, coaching session. This can be an mp3 file with just audio of the telesemiar or webinar, or a video of the webinar.
